Dr Marcia Kerchner is a Principal Information Systems Engineer at the MITRE Corporation. She has over 25 years experience as a computer scientist and project leader in the areas of information retrieval, usability engineering, requirements analysis, software testing, and information systems strategic planning. Over the past five years, she has been leading the effort to continually improve the IRS' public website, IRS.gov, through an innovative approach to usability engineering. Dr Kerchner received a PhD in computer science, specializing in information retrieval and processing, from Cornell University. She is featured in the new book “Career Ideas for Teens in Information Technology” and her article about usability engineering for IRS.gov was recently published in the June 2006 Information and Technology in Libraries Journal.
